National Hotel | An historic hotel in Jamestown, California

The National Hotel
One of the finest and oldest hotels in California

What sets this historic hotel apart from other hotels in the area is its original 1849 deco. When you stay at the National Hotel, it's a true step back in time.

The National Hotel was established in 1859 by to pioneers Heinrich and Hannah Neilson. This hotel was established in Jamestown, California. It was one of the first hotels with a bar and restaurant.

Later, it was to become known as the National Hotel. This wooden building was among the first permanent structures in this early (1848) gold-rush era. Early establishments in the gold fields were mostly tent and non-permanent structures. The National Hotel was one of the first original buildings in Jamestown and has been in continuous operation from this date.

Over the years, the National Hotel has been updated and remodeled. The present owner works hard to preserve the original look and feel of the hotel.

For example, the original back bar is still utilized today with a working cash register dating to 1881 and is in view, although it is handicapped by the fact that a maximum of $6.95 can be wrung at any one time. Much of the wood wainscoting which is visible throughout the building is original and can still be seen. Plumbing has been added to each individual room of the hotel.

There are 9 unique guest rooms that are beautifully appointed with fine antiques. Each room has air conditioning and a private bath with hair dryer, pull chain toilets, tile showers, and fluffy bathrobes.  This hotel makes a great location for weddings, reunions, anniversaries, and business meeting.
